Telehealth has transformed how people access care, making it more convenient, more personal, and more available. It has also grown fast enough that it can be hard to tell one platform from another, and what really sets them apart.

At Hims & Hers, experienced, independent healthcare providers are at the core of everything we do. When someone comes to our platform, they complete a comprehensive intake covering their medical history, current medications, symptoms, goals, and lifestyle. An independent, licensed healthcare provider reviews it, and decides whether treatment is right for them, and if so, which one.

We started Hims & Hers because getting care was harder than it needed to be, and simplicity shouldn’t come at the expense of quality. We think everyone deserves to know who's providing their care, how it works, and why we built it this way. Here's what that looks like in practice:

Independent care, guaranteed.

Hims & Hers gives people access to personal, expert-led care from independent, licensed providers. Every clinician providing care to Hims & Hers customers is employed or contracted by an independent provider group, separate from Hims & Hers and owned and managed by licensed healthcare providers. That group’s network of providers are licensed in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

We provide a telehealth platform that connects customers seeking treatment for certain conditions to licensed healthcare providers, who can perform an evaluation and prescribe treatment if they deem it appropriate for their patient. We also provide a number of administrative support activities, including the technology and non-clinical customer support, so providers can focus on practicing medicine. We don’t make clinical decisions about any customers. We don’t hire, contract with, or fire providers. And we don’t incentivize providers for the number of prescriptions they write.

Clinical judgment stays with the clinician.

We believe a provider’s judgment should only be shaped by what’s right for the person in front of them.

All treatment decisions start and end with licensed clinicians. If a provider decides treatment through the platform isn't the right fit, they can decline to treat the customer and refer them to a more appropriate care setting. That judgment doesn’t stop after the first prescription either. As care continues, providers adjust doses, respond to side effects, and change medications when they determine it’s needed.

Technology doesn’t replace providers – it elevates them.

Administrative work is one of the leading causes of burnout among physicians, and it takes time away from treating patients. Our proprietary electronic medical record (EMR) is designed to lighten that load. It organizes each customer's health information in consistent, structured formats, and clinician notes in each intake flag details worth a second look, including when a customer may be better served by care outside the platform.

That same instinct is what drove the development of our doctor-led, AI-native care experience. AI takes non-clinical tasks off of providers' plates and, when appropriate, answers customers' questions based on their treatment history, current medications, and care notes.

That time adds up for providers too, allowing them to practice medicine that fits their lives and reach people who might otherwise go without care.

Clinical experts and clinicians design care.

Our clinical leadership team spans primary care, dermatology, OB/GYN, urology, psychiatry, longevity, and weight management. Together, with clinicians at the provider organization, they create the evidence-based guidelines providers can draw on, while ensuring treatment decisions remain with individual providers.

Medical guidance evolves quickly, so we do too. Our medical affairs team works with clinicians at the provider group to keep our clinical guidelines and intake forms current, so the EMR reflects the latest research. Before treating anyone, providers complete training on the specific conditions they’ll treat, and the provider group shares guideline updates with them directly.

Care doesn't end when treatment begins.

Customers can message their care team with questions about their treatment, side effects, or how to take their medication 24/7.

That’s who’s behind every treatment decision on our platform: independent, licensed, providers. That's how Hims & Hers works today, and it's how we'll keep it.
