At Hims & Hers, design isn't decoration. It's clinical infrastructure. Treatments often fail not because the medicine doesn't work, but because people stop taking it, and I believe design is one of the most powerful tools we have to change that. How something looks, tastes, and feels to use can be the difference between a treatment someone abandons and one they stick with. Healthcare, meanwhile, has stayed frozen in a colder, clinical era, proof that this important lever has gone underused. A year ago, our first hair loss gummy was the perfect vehicle to prove what design could actually do. Now we've got the receipts that it’s has a meaningful impact on adherence.
The Biotin + Minoxidil Gummy through Hers launched in June 2025 as the first-ever prescription hair regrowth gummy1, combining prescription-strength minoxidil and biotin ingredients in a once-daily, green apple flavor. Every detail, from flavor to packaging to the color of the gummy itself, received the same obsessive attention. Our hypothesis: turn the act of taking a daily medication into a self-care ritual people actually look forward to, not just remember to do. This was our chance to prove design is central to the treatment experience, not a creative afterthought.
One year later, we asked 300+ Hers customers the real question: did any of that actually change whether people took their treatment, or was it just nice packaging? See the results below.2
The green apple flavor wasn't a first guess. It went through rounds of testing. We needed something tart and bright enough to enjoy, but not so sweet or intense that it felt like candy first thing in the morning. It needed to be a flavor blast you enjoy and move on from, more a fresh start than a dessert. The survey proves the approach worked. 78% of respondents say they enjoy the flavor, and for 79%, that taste directly drove better adherence. When something is genuinely enjoyable, it becomes a habit you want to keep, and with medicine, keeping the regimen is how it actually works.
Out went the orange prescription bottle nobody wants to be seen with. In came a sleek, recyclable frosted glass jar that catches the light, built to live on a woman’s counter, not hide in her cabinet. We took our cues from the beauty industry here, an industry that figured out decades ago that packaging isn't just a container, it's part of the product itself. Nearly 2 in 3 Hers Hair Gummy customers say the packaging made their experience more positive. That visibility is intentional. Great design doesn't need to shout. It supports and delights while fitting into your life.
Gummies are a no-brainer when it comes to appeal. They're already the format people reach for with vitamins and supplements because they're simply more enjoyable than a pill. But in medicine, adherence isn't just a nice bonus, it's the whole point. The survey showed that three in four of our customers had tried other hair loss treatments before coming to us, be it topicals, pills, the usual lineup. Among those respondents, 82% say the gummy format made them more consistent than what they'd used before, and nearly 2 in 3 say they wouldn't want to go back to pills after trying it. The format isn't just more pleasant, it's a driving factor for adherence, and adherence is what actually gets someone results.
Add it up, and the behavior change is the headline. 88% of respondents take their treatment every single day, and 94% take it daily or most days. 92% say they never forget a dose, and 77% say sticking to their hair loss treatment now feels easy rather than an effort.
This is what intentional design can do. When every detail, flavor, color, packaging, is a decision that matters, it's not just about making something prettier, it's about making room for someone to actually feel good about their care. That's the whole bet behind the Hers Hair Gummy, and it's the one we'll keep making.
